How it all got started...
Elizabethtown Sporting Goods was founded in 1976 by John Wannamaker. It was originally located on the square in Elizabethtown, with a focus on indoor and outdoor sporting equipment. The company then changed ownership and relocated to its current location in the 1990s, which was previously The Market Basket, a small local market in Elizabethtown.
During the mid-nineties, they began offering screen printing, embroidery and awards, as they began their venture into team uniforms and awards. As the sporting goods side became increasingly smaller due to larger retail chains, they continued to focus more on team uniforms, screen printing and embroidery, which evolved to what their focus is today.
In 2001 Dave Gibson, bought into the business after a career in law enforcement and helped to steer it to its current trajectory. In 2019 he bought out the remaining ownership and transitioned it into a true family business. He is still involved but his son, Mitch, runs the daily operations. After 40+ years of being a main stay of the Elizabethtown community, the company still strives to have a small business feel and be connected to the local communities and businesses.
